Xanax is used to treat anxiety disorders, panic disorders, and anxiety caused by depression. It is the single most prescribed psychiatric medication in the United States.Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once daily in the morning. If you suddenly stop using this medication, you may have withdrawal symptoms (such as seizures). To help prevent withdrawal, your doctor may lower your dose slowly. 4 mg maximum, given in divided doses.

f you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.
